We help serve the community and the world through our support of the following programs:

Help for the Homeless

BEDS (West Cook County Shelter) and PADS (West Suburban Shelter) - both of these voluntary organizations provide temporary shelter for the homeless in area churches. Volunteer training is available.

Interfaith Council for the Homeless - works on solving issues of homelessness in the Chicago Area. They also run temporary shelter for people recently hospitalized.

Good News Partners - helps families and individuals with housing and training for jobs. They also provide addiction counseling.

Open Door - an innovative Youth Shelter for homeless youth to help them become self-sufficient.

The Night Ministry - a street ministry which brings help to the northside area of Chicago including a mobile free medical clinic

Help for the Hungry

Berkeley-Hillside has an emergency food pantry for area families. We also support local food pantries in other churches.

We sponsor the annual CROP Walk which provides assistance for these local pantries and food programs worldwide.

Domestic Violence

Sarah's Inn - provides emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. They also provide women and children with counseling and advocacy to break out of the cycle of violence. An innovative program for male abusers has also been instrumental in breaking the cycle of abuse.

Constance Morris House - provides shelter for families and education about domestic violence.

Help for Adults, Children, Families and Communities

Kemmerer Village - began as an orphanage early in the last century. Today it is a residential facility connected to the Presbyterian Church which provides a full range of services for troubled youth. The dedicated workers and chaplains of this facility have given hope and healing to hundreds of youth.

Erie House and Onward House - began as missions of the Presbyterian Church over 100 years ago. Today they still serve families with a variety of programs such as parenting classes, day care and youth computer and mentoring programs.

Self-Development of People - a program of the Presbyterian Church world-wide which aids individuals and communities to find new ways to be self-sufficient economically. It is one of a variety of projects supported by special offerings of the Presbyterian Church.

ChildServ - provides help for abandoned or abused children, or children needing foster care. One of the programs Berkeley-Hillside supports is Christmas gift giving which goes to children who would not receive gifts otherwise.

Presbyterian Camps at Saugatuck - provides rest, recreation and fellowship for families, children and group retreats.

World Wide Missions

Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) supports over 700 missionaries worldwide.

We support the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering which provides disaster relief and other assistance worldwide

We also participate in the Peacemaking Offering which is used to encourage peacemaking efforts in church and community.

The Christmas Joy Offering - provides assistance for minority education and for retired ministers.

The Pentecost Offering - an offering designed to help youth projects and missionaries.

McCormick Seminary trains people for ministry and church vocations.
